The British battle cruiser Hood entered service in May 1920 and served as the flagship of the Royal Navy for almost 20 years. On 23rd May 1941 the Hood went with the Prince of Wales and two destroyers on the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. On the morning of the 24th there was a fight, the Hood first fired at the Prinz Eugen. When the Germans returned fire, the Hood was hit by the Bismarck. The hit penetrated the deck and hit the main ammunition chamber, the explosion blew the ship in half. Along with the loss of its flagship, the Royal Navy also lost 1,416 men. The two destroyers accompanying the Hood remained unharmed.
