1:24 Porsche 911GT3 ´99 Streetversion

Article number: 300024229 Product: 1/24 Porsche 911GT3 ´99 Streetversion About the Porsche 911 GT3 Since its debut in 1963, the epoch-making Porsche 911 has captivated generations of sports car enthusiasts. Over the years, various models of the 911 have been released, including the 1998 Le Mans-winning 911 GT1. In 1999, the "heart" of that automotive masterpiece, the water-cooled flat-six engine, was inherited by the Porsche 911 GT3. The brainchildren behind that machine are Porsche's development engineers in Weissach, who imbued it with superior agility and handling, without compromising active safety. Capable of accelerating to 100km/h in a mere 4.8 seconds, and with a top speed of 302km/h, the GT3 achieved a new record for production cars when it completed a lap on the northern circuit of Nuerburgring in only 7.56 minutes. The exterior appearance of the GT3 remains true to that of its predecessors, but features a new rear end, discreet side-sills, fixed rear wing, red brake calipers and sporty 18-inch light-alloy wheels. Compared with the 911 Carrera, the four-piston aluminum fixed monobloc brake calipers are larger and sturdier than before, and tightly grip the perforated brake discs. The GT3 cockpit is true reflection of its performance. It features leather-covered bucket seats, which ensure not only ample side support, but also comfort on long journeys and provide about 20kg of weight savings. And since the entire rear-seat section of the car has been dropped, the overall weight of the GT3 was reduced by another 8kg-a true benefit for a sports car of this performance level. Tamiya has recreated this epoch-making sports car in 1/24 scale. The intricate engine is visible when model is viewed from below. The upper surface features a four part rear-wing construction, enhancing the sophistication of the body design. Kit also comes with the Porsche emblem, authentically recreated as a metal transfer. 1:24 Porsche 959

Article number: 300024065 Product: 1/24 Porsche 959 The Porsche 959 was first unveiled at the 1983 Frankfurt auto show as a study for a full time 4 wheel drive Group B super sports car. Back then, the automobile was still far from being completed and its potential a mystery. The 959's awesome capabilities matured through thorough research and competition experience with the automobile. It demonstrated its outstanding abilities during the grueling Paris-Dakar Rally, and the Le Mans 24 hour endurance race. Porsche has taken their race car technology and put it into the 959, to produce a car that provides every comfort, with smooth running and the low interior noise expected of a road car, while offering high safety reserves. Thus the 959, despite its massive 450hp engine power, can be drive easily at its lower RPM ranges. The 2848cc engine is a descendent of the famous 956 and 962 Porsche Group C racer. It is an air/liquid cooled, flat 6 cylinder, DOHC equipped with two turbochargers, providing a top speed of more than 300km/h. The 959 maintains superb acceleration under all driving conditions, yet it also achieves short braking distances that prove to be a reassuring factor for all classes of drivers. The hollow wheel spokes increase air volume to the brakes and accommodate the fat, low profile Dunlop Denloc tires, and is equipped with a pressure sensor to detect punctures. The Porsche 959 is the car that raised the standard of sports car thinking to a new plateau, by exceeding every known yardstick of handling and performance.

1:24 Subaru Impreza WRC '99

Article number: 300024218 Product: 1:24 Subaru Impreza WRC '99 The 1997 World Rally Championships saw a relaxing in the rules pertaining to vehicle modification. Subaru was the first team to take advantage of the leeway, bringing out the Impreza WRC. That machine featured all aluminum horizontal four cylinder turbo engine paired with a vertically mounted gearbox. The layout placed the gearbox in a balanced position behind the front axle, heightening manerverability and ultimately contributing to a Mnufactures Championship for that year. The bulk of the improvements to the 1999 model centered around the engine and gearbox. Foremost was the adoption of an electronically controlled throttle system. This system converts the position of the throttle in to electronic signals, heightening throttle response. The Impreza WRC was also equipped with a 6-speed, semi-automatic gearbox. This system enables sudden shifting, such as from 6th to 1st gear. Work is also continuing on the development of an electronically controlled damper system. The Impreza WRC is driven by J. Kankkunen, R. Burns and B. Thiry. Kankkunen and Burns finished in 1st and 2nd place respectively at both the 7th Argentina Rally and the 10th Finland Rally. The 8th Acropolis Rally was also taken by Burns, setting the scene for an intense contest in the latter half of the season.

1:24 Toyota Corolla WRC

Article number: 300024209 Product: 1/24 Toyota Corolla WRC In its long and illustrious career in the World Rally Championships, Toyota has mainly used the Celica as its flagship. In 1997, however, a rule change in the WRC presented Toyota with a chance to demonstrate its innovation. Permission was granted to equip the base of the Toyota's widely marketed production car with a turbo-charge and four-wheel drive system, as well as modify the engine without restriction. The more compact body of the Corolla was chosen for the development of the new rally car, and the Corolla WRC car was born. Using components tried and tested on the Celica, the Corolla WRC was equipped with a front loaded, 2-litre, 4-cylinder 3S-GTE turbo engine and 4-wheel drive. Highly reliable MacPherson struts make for a winning suspension on both the front and rear. In addition, the side of the steering column was equipped with a sequential shift lever, called a "joystick", allowing a 6-speed transmission control. With hydraulic brakes that automatically sense the movement of the wheels and a center differential equipped with a hang-on clutch, the Corolla WRC is stock full of the latest electronic gadgetry. A size smaller than the Celica, the Corolla WRC is perfectly suited for the winding country roads of the Rally. The Corolla WRC debuted in the Finland Rally of 1997, which led to a half year of testing before fully entering the WRC in 1998. Main drivers Carlos Sainz and Didier Auriol showed winning skill.

1:24 Volkswagen Beetle 1300 1966

Article number: 300024136 Product: 1:24 Volkswagen Beetle 1300 1966 Even in this age of sophistication, the popularity of the Volkswagen "Beetle" has not diminished. The original design dates back to the 1930"s when Dr. Ferdinand Porsche provided the design framework for the "People"s Car." Today, with more than 20 million units produced, the Volkswagen Beetle has become a symbol of mass-produced motorization, with no other vehicle exceeding this figure. Built upon the sturdy platform chassis is the amazingly reliable air cooled, flat-four cylinder engine. Suspension is four wheel independent for crisp handling and driving comfort. Although the onset of the Second World War greatly hindered Volkswagen"s marketing opportunities, it made a superb comeback shortly following the conflict, under the skillful guidance of Heinrich Nordhoff. Throughout its production life, the Volkswagen was continuously improved to meet modern automobile standards. An enlarged powerplant displacement and better visibility are two of the notable changes that enabled the Beetle to set standards for the compact car market, decade after decade. The 1966 Volkswagen model is regarded as the classic Beetle, one that retains the most of the original design traits, and it has become a collector"s item. Even today, more than half a century later, watching a nimble street bug is still a pleasant sight to behold, and its unmistakable shape will likely delight generations to come. 1:32 F-4J PHANTOM II MARINES

Article number: 300060308 Product: 1:32 F-4J PHANTOM II MARINES About the McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II Marines When test pilot Robert C. Little prepared to take off in the YF4H-1 prototype on May 27, 1958, few onlookers could have guessed at the success story yet to unfold. Over thirty years from that faithful day, the successors of that prototype, the Phantom series of aircraft, would be protecting the skies over the free world and see adoption by eleven nations including the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Marines. The Phantom II was developed by McDonnell Douglas and first pitted against Vought's F8U-3 Crusader III to see which aircraft would be the Navy's next main carrier-borne fighter. In 1959, the selection was made in favor of the robust Phantom II. The early production model, the F4H-1F, underwent various tests and training exercises, eventually leading to the F4H-1 model, which was deployed to several Navy and Marine divisions. In 1962, in efforts to unify the names of Navy and Air Force aircraft, the F4H-1F and F4H-1 became designated the F-4A and F-4B respectively. Just after its adoption by the Navy, the Phantom II showed the world what it was made of, breaking record after record, including top-speed, altitude, and time-to-climb. To top off these results, the U.S. Navy ran Project LANA, a transcontinental speed race. The roman L stood for the number 50, for "50th Anniversary of Naval Aviation". The contest was to demonstrate the Phantom's shocking speed and reach. Based on this impressive track record, and on comparative tests against Air Force fighters at the time, it was decided that the next main fighter of the Air Force would also be the Navy's Phantom II. The F-4B version was specially tailored to the needs of the Air Force, and became designated the F-4C. Further improvements to that aircraft resulted in the F-4D model. The Navy continued to make improvements to the Phantom II. Mounting the F-4B wi

The F110-GE-129 jet engine is also replicated in precise detail, and can slide into place on a hook and rail system exactly like the actual aircraft. The entire engine can also be displayed outside the aircraft using the included cart. This model achieves a level of accuracy only possible in such a large-scale work. 1:32 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVIe

Article number: 300060321 Product: 1:32 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVIe A Case of a Good Bubble The legendary Supermarine Spitfire is often credited with saving England during WWII. Among its many variants was the Mk.XVI, which was a Mk.IX airframe that was powered by a Merlin 266 engine license-built by Packard Motor Car Company in the United States. Most Mk.XVIs featured the larger rudder and E Type wing with two 20mm cannons and two 12.7mm machine guns. With the introduction of the teardrop canopy, the rear upper fuel tank capacity was reduced to 33 gal. and that of the forward lower fuel tank was increased to 48 gal. to compensate. 1,054 Mk.XVIs were produced from September 1944 until July 1945. During the war, they were deployed on the European front and served as fighter-bombers. In the post-war period, the Mk.XVI was used by the RAF as well as the Belgian and Greek air forces until the early-1950s. About the Model 1/32 scale plastic assembly kit of the Spitfire Mk.XVIe. ★Overall Length: 302mm, Overall Width: 311mm. ★Distinctive features of the Mk.XVIe, including Packard Merlin 266 engine, E Type wing, teardrop canopy, and modified landing gear legs, are accurately reproduced. ★Canopy may be opened even after assembly. ★Features movable ailerons, rudder, and elevators. 1:32 US VOUGHT F4U-1A Corsair

Article number: 300060325 Product: 1:32 US VOUGHT F4U-1A Corsair This is a highly detailed model recreating the F4U-1A variant of the highly popular Corsair model. Newly-designed parts are included in the kit to accurately capture the modifications which distinguish it from the original F4U-1. The F4U-1A drew on the experience of Navy and US Marine Corps pilots' experience with the original aircraft, making modifications to further improve the performance of this legendary bird. One of the most noticeable alterations was the discarding of the "birdcage" cockpit and its extensive frame sections that hampered visibility; a semi-bubble canopy with minimal frame was installed instead, which improved the pilot's view and made it easier to land the F4U-1A. Additional upgrades included raising the pilot's seat 18cm to help with visibility, and later extending tail wheel struts by 16.5cm. A wedge shaped spoiler was added to the starboard wing to correct the tendency of the port wing to stall first and roll out of control. Such modifications contributed greatly to the F4U-1A's suitability for use from aircraft carriers; although by this time it had been passed over for that duty by the F6F Hellcat. Unlike its predecessor, the F4U-1A would later be used as fighter-bomber, and was given the capability of carrying a drop tank under the fuselage, plus a bomb rack for use on raids supporting ground troops. This combination of fearsome performance in the air and bombing capability made the F4U-1A a vital component as the Allied forces conducted their 'island hopping' strategy progressing through the Solomon Islands.

1:32 WWII North American P-51D Mustang

Article number: 300060322 Product: 1:32 WWII North American P-51D Mustang The P-51 Mustang is considered by many to be the best fighter aircraft of WWII. The P-51 Mustang came about when the British Purchasing Commission asked North American Aviation to produce the Curtiss P-40 for the RAF, but North American stated they could build something better. The P-51D is considered by many experts to be the definitive variant of the Mustang as it was the most widely produced. It featured a bubble canopy which gave the pilot superb all-round visibility as well as a heavier armament of six 12.7mm machine guns. Wing racks allowed the carriage of drop tanks to extend range or bombs for ground attack. P-51Ds were instrumental in helping the Allies gain air superiority over Europe, and after Germany's defeat, they continued their role as long-range escorts for B-29s attacking Japan. Many also saw service during the Korean War as fighter-bombers and a few even continued to serve with air forces of less developed nations until the 1980s.   Warning! 1:35 Ger. PzKpfw. II C Polnish (4)

Article number: 300035299 Product: 1:35 Ger. PzKpfw. II C Polnish (4) After WWI, Germany pushed forward with the development of battle tanks under a veil of secrecy. The Panzerkampfwagen II used the Panzerkampfwagen I's hull and came armed with a 2cm main gun. Mass production began in 1937 and various improvements including a new suspension was made. 1:35 Ger. SdKfz.9 Famo 18to Halftrack(8)

Article number: 300035239 Product: 1:35 Ger. SdKfz.9 Famo 18to Halftrack(8) Art.Nr.: 300035239 Artikelbezeichnung: 1:35 WWII SdKfz.9 Famo 18to Halbkette(8) About the "Famo" In the wake of Blitzkrieg advances made by the Wehrmacht at the outbreak of WWII, the recovery of damaged or broken tanks from the battlefield proved relatively simple. After securing an area, reinforcing divisions could easily send inoperative vehicles back to the homeland for repair via railway. However, in the seesaw battles with the British Army in North Africa and against the Russian Army on the Russian front, the quick replenishment of tank strength became an indispensable element of Wehrmacht battle strategy. The utilization of the 18 ton Heavy Half-Track "Famo" proved fundamental to this strategy. The proposal for the development of the Wehrmacht half-tracks was first made in 1932. Originally, three half-tracks, designated by their towing capability (5 ton, 8 ton and 12 ton) were designed, until 1936, when a light 3 ton vehicle and a heavy 18 ton vehicle, the largest one in the Wehrmacht, were also added. The 18 ton half track was mainly developed for the towing of 21cm and 24cm artillery howitzer and of course for tank recovery. It could also be used for the transport of over 30 troops. About the Model ★1/35 plastic assembly kit of the largest half-track in the German Army. ★Overall Length: 243mm, Overall Width: 75mm. ★Highly detailed model captures the size and tank-towing power of the FAMO. ★Realistic treads and suspension. ★Synthetic rubber front tires and steerable front wheels for maximum realism. ★Rear gate and storage doors can be assembled in the open or closed position. ★Tank towing drawbar included. ★Can be assembled with or without engine side panels, revealing fully detailed engine. ★Engine can be assembled outside of FAMO. ★Eight figures (four variations) included.   Warning! 1:35 Israeli Tank M1 Super Sherman

Article number: 300035322 Product: 1/35 Israeli Tank M1 Super Sherman Over 50,000 Shermans of all types were produced during WWII. The Shermans which the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) initially procured from various sources were a mix of different variants featuring different hulls, turrets, suspensions, and armaments. However, Israel was eventually able to negotiate the purchase of about 250 M4A1 and M4A3 Shermans from France, and these were armed with the M1A1/A2 76.2mm main gun which could better counter the Arab armies' Russian made T-34-85s. Shermans were also produced with two different types of suspension: VVSS (Vertical Volute Spring Suspension) and HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension). The latter offered better performance and the IDF eventually modified their tanks to the HVSS standard. Thus the IDF designated its 76.2mm gun-armed HVSS-equipped Shermans as M1 Super Shermans and many of these saw their first action during the Sinai Campaign in 1956.

1:35 Israeli Tank M51 105mm

Article number: 300035323 Product: 1/35 Israeli Tank M51 105mm During the 1960's, the Israeli Ordnance Corps upgraded their M4A1 Sherman tanks by equipping them with the powerful French 105mm CN-105-F1 tank gun and they were redesignated as M51s. The larger gun meant a muzzle brake was installed to minimize the greater recoil effect and a counterweight was fitted to the rear of the turret. The 460hp diesel engine and the combination of the Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS) and wider T80 tracks gave the M51 improved mobility. During the Six-Day War in 1967, the M51s were used against newer T-54/55 tanks as well as JS-3 tanks from Egyptian, Iraqi, and Syrian armies. The M51's 105mm gun could take on these adversaries by using HEAT ammunition. After the war, these M51s continued to serve with distinction until they were finally retired in the early 1980s.

1:35 WWI Brit. Tank Mk. IV Male (mot.)

Article number: 300030057 Product: 1/35 WWI Brit. Tank Mk. IV Male (mot.) Tamiya is delighted to announce its maiden foray into the world of WWI models, in the year which marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities in what was then known as the Great War. The tanks which appeared in the conflict were the first ever seen on the battlefield, and were the forerunners of a whole line of military vehicles which is still being developed further today. The Mk.IV tank was a successor to the Mk.I, which was drawn up by British designers in attempt to break the stalemate of trench warfare experienced on the Western Front; the rhombus-shaped hull was designed to aid in crossing the extensive network of trenches. The Mk.I, first thrown into live action in September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme, had "male" (fitted with 57mm, 6-pound guns) and "female" (fitted only with machine guns) versions. Around 1,000 Mk.IV tanks were manufactured after 1917, and they inherited their shape and male/female weaponry and classifications from the Mk.I, but with significantly upgraded armor. Around 400 were used en masse in the November 1917 Battle of Cambrai to great effect, and with the world cottoning on to the new vehicle’s potential the maiden tank vs. tank battle was not far behind: in 1918, the Mk.IV faced off against its German counterpart the AV7.

The heavy shells could penetrate 120mm armor at a distance of 1km and destroy concrete walls up to 300m thick. In September 1943, mass production began on the JSU-152. In the summer of 1944, the JSU-152 entered its first official battle during Operation Bagration. The JSU-152 earned the nickname "Zveroboy (beast killer)" due to the vehicles ability to destroy Tiger I and Panther tanks. 1:48 F4U-1D Corsair w/ 'Moto-Tug'

Article number: 300061085 Product: 1:48 F4U-1D Corsair w/ 'Moto-Tug' About the Vought F4U-1D Corsair w/ Moto-Tug The speedy Corsair debuted as the 1st US fighter plane to overcome the 400mph (644km/h) barrier. However the initial production version of this aircraft, the F4U-1 "Birdcage", was not without its problems. The port wing stall often gave the Corsair unstable landing, and the long nose and framed canopy hindered visibility. These weak points necessitated the development of improved versions such as the latter developed F4U-1A with 18cm raised cockpit and raised rear landing gear. The F4U-1D featured clear vision canopy (two side frames removed) and had two pylons under the center wing section that could carry up to a 1,000lb bomb payload. In 1944 the F4U-1D Corsair was formally deployed as a carrier based aircraft. Following the successful release of the 1/48 Messerschmitt Me262 A-2a w/ Kettenkraftrad, Tamiya is proud to present yet another aircraft/ground vehicle set: the 1/48 scale F4U-1D Corsair (Item 61061) with the all new 1/48 "Moto Tug." This kit is perfect for designing the ultimate U.S. Navy Scene Diorama. Aircraft Tug or "Moto-Tug" tractors, as they were nicknamed, were manufactured by Ford. The Ferguson Company modified these vehicles for ease of application in the U.S. Navy by lowering clearance, and reducing wheel diameter to make it more compact. A protective panel was also added. The double-tire version of this vehicle was the BNO-40, the single-tire version was the BNO-25. Tow bars from Moto Tugs would attach to the rear landing gear or main landing gear struts. These vehicles were active in towing U.S. Naval planes to runways and hangers. The kit will feature all new parts for recreation of rockets on outer section of wing, perfect for displaying in wing-folded position. In addition to the standing pilot figure of the previous kit, a pilot figure to be assembled leaning out of the cockpit (checking towing) will be included. This kit reproduces the double-wheel version of the "Moto-Tug" with minimal parts for ease of assembly. Currently, decals for the replication of three different planes are planned to be included in this kit. Driver figure as well as two types of tow bars (main landing gear strut type and rear landing gear strut type) for "Moto-Tug" will also be included.   Warning! Not suitable for children under 14 years.

1:48 Jap. A6 M5C Type 52 Zero Fighter

Article number: 300061027 Product: 1:48 Jap. A6 M5C Type 52 Zero Fighter About the A6M5c Type 52 Zero Fighter In April 1939, shortly after the first Japanese Zero began test trials, modification drawings were already taking place on the zero in the Mitsubishi design room, to keep pace with the anticipated long air war in the Pacific. After the initial superiority of the Zero over allied aircraft began to wane, due to new U.S. types being introduced, Mitsubishi was hard pressed to maintain a superiority. The introduction of the Grumman F6F and Chance Vought F4U, provided a need for more firepower, armor protection and capability led the combined companies of Nakajima and Mitsubishi to produce the A6M5 series of aircraft. Total production of the Type 52 series consisted of 10,449 aircraft of which Nakajima produced 6,570. It first entered combat in August 1943 at a time when the Japanese forces were withdrawing from previously held islands in the South Pacific. The type 52c was the last of the A6M5 series, and the most effective against Allied aircraft due to its armament configuration three of 13mm machine guns and two 20mm cannons. A total of 93 Type 52 and 52b zeros were field modified to "c" weapons configuration. The 7.7mm machine guns, housed in the cowling of the Zero since its first introduction, proved to be less effective during the latter stages of the conflict, due to the heavier armor protection of allied aircraft, and their self sealing fuel tanks. The 13mm weapon was greatly more effective; however, due to its increased weight, only one of them could be housed in the cowling and one in each wing. The 7.7 machine guns were removed from the cowling and one 13mm gun was mounted on the right hand side. This installation also made necessary the enlarging of the right hand projectile exit and cowling tube input, of the cowling, giving it an unbalanced look when viewed from the top.

1:48 WWII British M10 IIC Achilles

Article number: 300032582 Product: 1:48 WWII British M10 IIC Achilles Britain was supplied with a number of American M10 tank destroyers under the Lend-Lease programme. The M10 was based upon the famed M4 Sherman tank, but with lighter and more highly sloped armor which allowed the M10 to reach higher speeds. The British switched the original U.S. 3-inch gun with their own powerful 17-pounder on over 1,000 M10s, changing the name to IIC, or sometimes "Achilles". While the new gun required a muzzle brake to be fitted onto the vehicle, other modifications were limited to thicker front and side armor, plus a turret-top shield. With this year marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day operations, the Achilles provides a timely new face for the 1/48 Military Miniatures series. About the Model • This is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit. Length: 152mm, width: 63mm. • The form of the Achilles with British 17-pounder gun and characteristic "duck bill" muzzle brake is faithfully recreated. • The model depicts a late production version of the tank destroyer with suspension bogies raised upon support roller brackets. • The open top fighting department is authentically reproduced using a limited number of parts. • Includes markings to recreate an Achilles which took part in the Normandy landings that were central to the D-Day operation. • Features a plastic lower hull.

1:48 WWII Ger. 20mm Flakvierling 38 (4)

Article number: 300032554 Product: 1/48 WWII Ger. 20mm Flakvierling 38 (4) About the Flakvierling 38 Originally developed as a light anti-aircraft weapon for the Kriegs marine, the German army also adopted the 20mm cannon for use on land and was widely-used throughout WWII. The mount featured collapsible seats, ammo cartridge racks, a three-legged base, and could be rotated via hand wheels, with the guns themselves fired via two foot pedals, each of which controlled a pair of diametrically opposed cannons. In basic form, the Flakvierling38 was loaded onto a 2-wheeled mount for towing to deployment points, but it was also fitted onto halftracks, tank chassis, ships, barges, and trains to provide close-range air defense against Allied fighter-bombers. About the Model High-quality 1/48 scale assembly model kit of the German Flakvierling 38 anti-aircraft gun. Quad-20mm cannons are linked to gunsight. And what tank could be more appropriate than the awesome Tiger I?! In a size that sits comfortably in the palm of your hand, this is a must have for all diorama fanatics and AFV collectors. For our first tank release there was no looking past the Tiger I. Lining this beautifully detailed model with other 1/48 scale WWII vehicles or aircraft and you will feel the true size and refined power of this amazing war machine. About the Tiger I Towards the middle of WWII, the Wehrmacht was hard pressed on two fronts, facing tough fighting against the superior Soviet T34 and KV-I tanks in the East, and retreating in the face of the Allied offensive in North Africa. But in late 1942, German units were assigned a powerful new war machine that far surpassed the Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks: the Tiger I. Equipped with the awesome 88mm main gun, 100mm thick armor at the front, 80mm armor on the sides, and a 650hp Maybach engine, the Tiger I is widely considered to be the most powerful and sophisticated tank of its time. Henschel produced over 1,300 Tiger I heavy tanks during the period of the war, ranging from initial production to modified late production models. The approximately 200 models produced from November 1942 to June 1943 are characterized as early production models. Distinctive features of early production Tiger I tanks include the large cylinder shaped cupola with a smoke discharger and pistol ports on the turret. The Tiger I first saw action against the Soviets near Leningrad, and went on to serve with distinction on the East

1:48 WWII Ger.Tank II Ausf.A/B/C F.C.

Article number: 300032570 Product: 1/48 WWII Ger.Tank II Ausf.A/B/C F.C. In the mid 1930s, the German military pushed the production of tanks. The Panzer I designed as a training tank, did not have the adequate performance, so a light tank was needed to full the gap until the Panzer III could be introduced. Therefore, the German Ordnance Department issued a request for a new training tank that could be used for combat. In the end, MAN was chosen in 1934 to produce the Panzer II, a compact 4.8m long, 2.2m wide design with a three man crew. The 8.9 ton tank featured a 2cm Kwk 30 L/55 cannon and 7.92mm machine gun in the turret, 15mm armor protection for turret and hull front, leaf spring suspension, and a 140hp Maybach HL 62 TRM engine matched with a ZF SSG46 transmission, which gave it a 40km/h top speed. The Ausf. A was produced from 1937, followed by the Ausf. B and C, which were difficult to distinguish from each other visually. About 1,100 Panzer tanks were produced by April 1940, and due to delays with the Panzer III, they were immediately issued as the Panzer divisions' main tank for the invasion of Poland in September 1939. Based on lessons learned on the battlefields of Poland and, in May 1940, France, improvements such as extra armor and a turret cupola were added, and the Panzer II went on to serve in North Africa and Russia in front line and liaison and reconnaissance duties until the end of 1943. Afterwards, they were used to police occupied territories and the chassis was also adapted for use as the basis for various self-propelled gun designs.
