Their current top-of-the-line "916" bike was unveiled to the public during the 1993 Milan Motor Show. In recent years, Ducati has been a dominant force at the World Superbike Championships. Their 916 was developed using the latest racing technology and expertise, and became a very effective base machine fore these Championships. Its 114 horsepower, 916cc, liquid cooled L-twin cylinder engine uses a computer controlled fuel injection system and Ducat's traditional Desmodromic valve operation system. This valve system uses cam mechanics for both opening and closing the valves, while a conventional system closes the valves with springs only. This powerful engine is mounted in a light weight and extremely rigid, chrome molybdenum steel tubular frame. The rear swing arm suspension uses a mono-arm for quick tire changing during competition. Showa's shock absorbers and Brembo brake calipers are used at both ends. The 916 has a 2-stage adjustable caster offset system. Its aerodynamic cowl design is very distinctive, differing from other racer-replica bikes. The front cowl has engine air intake openings and mounts the dual headlamps. The fuel tank is ergonomically sculptured to fit the rider's varying posture during hard riding. The 916 is a true street legal racing machine on the leading edge of performance and styling.

Article number: 300014063 Product: 1:12 Ducati 888 Superbike ´93 About the Ducati 888 Superbike Racer On the 26th of September 1993, a young and inspiring motorcycle racer named Tetsuya Harada was adding the final touches to his machine at the Jarama racing circuit, just prior tot he last round of the season. This would make him the first Japanese World Champion since 1977. His closest rival, Loris Capirossi, was ahead in point standings going into this last race, but bad luck plagued him during the dynamic battle for the 250cc GP2 title. Although this was Harada's debut season for the World Grand Prix, he had been working closely with Yamaha for the last couple of seasons, perfecting the works TZM bike, which allowed him to win the 1992 All Japan Championship title. The 1993 Yamaha TZ250M used a 249cc liquid cooled V-twin cylinder engine capable of 94 horsepower. Its crankcase reed valve induction system was combined with an electronically controlled exhaust valve system. The highly sophisticated six-speed gear box used an electronic cut-out gear changing system that eliminated clutch operation and minimized racing stresses. This awesome powerplant was mounted on Yamaha's exceptionally rigid twin-spar box-section aluminum frame that was capable of head angle adjustments. The rear suspension was also of box-sectioned aluminum to withstand the enormous power and traction. The bike rides on Marchesini cast magnesium wheels matched to Dunlop radial tires. The superb stopping power was achieved by front Brembo and rear Nissin Brake systems.

About the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R Kawasaki's legacy of cutting-edge sportbikes has inspired motorcycle fans for generations. Recently, the call for 300km/h plus super sports bikes has motivated several manufactures to bring out powerful contenders. Kawasaki answered the call at the 1999 Paris Motorcycle Show, with the impressive debut of their all-new Ninja ZX-12R. This Ninja was reportedly created in the image of a fighter plane, which comes as no surprise considering that its slippery aerodynamics involved the cooperation of the Aerospace Division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. In fact, the ZX-12R spent more time in the wind tunnel during its development phase than any motorcycle in Kawasaki's history. The results are evident: small winglets on the sides of the fairing separate airflow around the bike; small wind deflectors on the lower forks deflect turbulent air from the engine; a long lip on the edge of the fairing further smoothens out airflow. Also, projecting just ahead of the front fairing, a large scoop takes advantage of higher air pressure, heightening intake efficiency. A monocoque frame backbone creates an airbox that allows air to pass through the inside of the bike for cooling in addition to ensuring overall rigidity. The powerplant of the Ninja ZX-12R is a fuel injected 4-cylinder 1,199cc engine that pumps out an abundant 178hp. Its four-into-two-into-one exhaust system features a titanium muffler paired with a catalyzer, which helps eliminate unburned hydrocarbons for cleaner emissions. Kawasaki brilliantly raised the superbike standard in performance, power and aerodynamics with their series flagship, the Ninja ZX-12R.

Article number: 300014044 Product: 1:12 Yamaha XV1000 Virago About the Yamaha XV1000 Virago The motorcycle, along with the automobile, has played a big role in transporting humans from place to place for many years. Man has always been able to adapt his tools for specific needs, and as the motorcycle became more and more a sport, or leisure transportation vehicle, it has been designed for more specific purposes. The off road, touring, motocross and speed bikes as well as the basic transportation motorcycle can be seen in most countries, but America seems to have a certain styling all its own. This so called "Chopper style" came about during the mid 1960's from the many modified Harley's done by members of the many motorcycle clubs around the country. There are many long straight stretches of good, high speed roadways in America, and to sit back comfortably, with feet resting on forward pedals and sitting on a very relaxing saddle, brought about these modifications. The Yamaha Company of Japan is well known for quality bikes around the world, and they have been making bikes for specific areas for years. The Yamaha XS650 Special released in 1978 had the American look, and since then this company has marketed bikes with similar styling. The XV1000 Virago is their latest, large bore, American styled motorcycle and sure to become popular. Its front wheel caster angle of 32 degrees provides an extended wheel base of 1525mm, making its straight running ability superb. The wide, pull back type of handle bars and the forward placed foot rests, allow the rider to sit up as if he was on a horse. A separate looking, loose cushion seat is almost like sitting on a sofa, and it is positioned at a height of only 715mm. Article number: 300014073 Product: 1:12 Yamaha YZF-R1 1000ccm 1997 Street At the Motorcycle Show held in Milan, Italy, in September of 1997, the Yamaha YZF-R1 supersport motorcycle made its debut. Sporting a powerful 1000cc engine, it has the compact construction of a 400cc bike. The YZF-R1 was developed for maximum possible cornering ability in a production motorcycle. With a 1000cc water-cooled, four stroke, 4-cylinder, 5-valve engine and adopting a redesigned EXUP exhaust system, it pumps out 150hp of high-intensity power. Subtle throttle control makes both superb acceleration response and rhythmic cornering a reality. The Deltabox II aluminum frame was sought after not only for its rigidity, but more so for its moderate flexibility during tight cornering. With the addition of a long span aluminum swing arm, high control ability has been achieved. By adopting an upside-down front fork, stroke distance has been increased and traction heightened. Boasting a sharp form with multi-reflector lights, the YZF-R1 has been given an unprecedented style. From the contact points between the rider and motorcycle, right down to the material used in the seat and tank, the YZF-R1 has been thoroughly studied. Of course, the abundance of high precision and high quality parts goes without saying. Designed to cruise at high speeds on winding roads, the YZF-R1 shatters expectations about large exhaust engine motorcycles. Yamaha has expanded the possibilities of a 1000cc bike.

Article number: 300014057 Product 1:12 Honda VFR 750R 1987 About the Honda VFR750R Honda's release of their limited production, road-going, "works racer" VFR750R made headlines in the motorcycle scene in 1987. The VFR750R is a street-legal counterpart of the formidable RVF750 endurance racer which displayed remarkable potential in the world endurance championships. This bike follows the concept seen in the RVF750, including the use of space-age technology and components such as titanium, carbon-fiber, kevlar, and magnesium. It betters the earlier bikes by a wide margin. The VFR750R also uses a twin-spar aluminum box frame, Pro-Arm (rear swing arm), and a center-lock hub rear wheel. These superlative features and the RVF's racing reputation have made it a collector's item even before the first unit was off the production line. The 748cc, liquid cooled, V4 cylinder 16 valve engine has been kept compact to keep the VFR's overall dimensions very close to the current 500cc Grand Prix racers, for a minimum frontal area. Further, this motorcycle departs from the typical Japanese mass-production practice by using a great deal of human labor on each unit, such as the FRP cowling and windscreen being laid up by hand. The Honda VFR750R is one potent package and has been designed to be very competitive on racing tracks in stock form, yet remain street legal. It will remain a desirable and elusive high performance bike for years to come.
