1/35 155mm SPG M40

Article number: 300035351 Product: 1/35 155mm SPG M40 This is an assembly model of the U.S. Self-Propelled 155mm M40. It is a never before seen subject in the Tamiya line-up of 1/35 scale models. The kit uses all new tooling with the exception of the suspension parts as they are from the M4A3E8 Sherman "Easy Eight" model kit. The M40 was a significant step in U.S. Army artillery mechanization, pairing the M1 155mm gun with the proven M4 Sherman chassis. Armor was light given its intended use as a long range weapon (they were effective up to 23.5km) away from the front line, while the layout was changed from the M4 to allow a big fighting compartment at the rear to accommodate the big gun. It was fitted with smooth horizontal volute spring suspension (HVSS). Over 400 were produced before the end of WWII; although they never fought in the conflict, one example of their T83 prototype did. The M40 served in the Korean War, and was eventually replaced by the M53.

1/35 Archer

Article number: 300035356 Product: 1/35 Archer This model assembly kit recreates the British Army’s Archer. As WWII progressed, British troops found that their 2-pounder and 6-pounder guns were being rendered obsolete by German armor, and planners decided to develop a vehicle using the powerful 17-pounder (76.2mm) gun. The vehicle chosen to mount the gun on was the Valentine; the turret was removed and replaced with a fighting compartment – this would be known as the Archer. Interestingly, as there was little time to re-organize the cramped layout, the 17-pounder had to be mounted pointing rearwards to fit it in. As a result, the Archer moved and fired in opposite directions. However, it offered strong performance and served with British and Commonwealth units from October 1944 till the end of WWII. The British continued using it until the early 1950s.

Another distinguishing feature was its 76mm gun. Some of the 2,500 examples produced were in time to appear in the Battle of the Bulge (Dec. 1944-Jan. 1945), and others even served in the Korean War years after the Allied WWII triumph. 1/35 US M10 Mid Production

Article number: 300035350 Product: 1/35 US M10 Mid Production This is a model of the famed M10 Tank Destroyer, a subject also covered in the 1/48 scale Military Miniature series. This largely newly-tooled model (only machine gun and clear parts are taken over from existing models) gives it the glorious detail of the larger 1/35 scale. The astonishing success of German armor tactics in 1940 prompted U.S. forces to adopt a doctrine requiring dedicated new tank destroyers to counter them. After going down a few different design routes at the start of the process, they eventually hit upon the highly successful M10 design with well-sloped (if rather thin, to keep the vehicle light and maneuverable) armor plate, and the highly capable 3-inch (76.2mm) gun. Over 4,900 were produced, and took part in Operation Torch (the invasion of N. Africa), as well as fighting in Italy and the advance upon Germany that would bring the exhausting conflict to a close. About the model 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit. Length: 196mm, width: 88mm. Intensive study and measurement of the M10 in the tank museum at Saumur led to this highly detailed depiction of its form complete with sloped armor, right down to auxiliary armor bosses. The open top on the distinctive turret allows viewing of the 3-inch gun breech and realistic interior. Compare and contrast depictions of surface textures such as the cast mantlet and differential cover versus the welded armor plate of the turret sides and upper hull. Belt-type parts recreate T51 tracks. Driver's hatch can be attached in open or closed position, and features periscope depiction. Comes with 3 figures (commander, loader, gunner) in realistic pose, plus 2 marking options for recreating M10s belonging to the 601st and 634th U.S. Tank Destroyer Battalions

1/35 Valentine Mk.II/IV

Article number: 300035352 Product: 1:35 Brit. Valentine Mk. II/IV This is an all new tooled model of the British Valentine Infantry tank in 1/35 scale. British armor doctrine in the 1930s up to the outbreak of WWII called for 2 types of tank - more mobile cruiser tanks and heavy, slow infantry tanks. The Valentine was a prolifically produced example of the latter (7,315 units, more than 30% of British tank production in WWII). It was based upon existing cruiser tank designs and relatively easy to manufacture, a critical point for the British military after it had lost so much material during the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. The Valentine would see extensive action in North Africa, particularly the Mk.II and Mk.IV variants (they had different engines) depicted by this kit. Over 4,500 were also handed over to the Soviet Union under the lend-lease agreement, the Red Army using them mainly for recon work.

While the crew of 5 were not blessed with overwhelming protection, their vehicle was a mobile threat to Allied forces nonetheless.

1:35 French Med. Tank SOMUA S35

Article number: 300035344 Product: 1:35 French Med. Tank SOMUA S35 The SOMUA S35 was a French Cavalry tank of the Second World War. It was manufactured from 1936 until 1940 to equip armored divisions of the Cavalry. For its day it was a relatively agile medium-weight tank, superior in armor and armament to both its French and foreign competitors, such as the contemporary versions of the German Panzerkampfwagen III. It was constructed from well-sloped, mainly cast, armor sections, that however made it expensive to produce and time-consuming to maintain. While not given a chance to show its full effectiveness during the Battle of France in 1940, the SOMUA showed up strongly in a number of battles with German forces and indeed was used by German forces after the French defeat and even by the Allies after the liberation of France in 1944. It was among the first French tanks developed for use as a cavalry tank, as opposed to the previous infantry roles the tank was largely restricted to under French military doctrine. A cast metal body with armor up to 56mm thick gave excellent protection from German guns, and offensively it could rely on a powerful 47mm gun that repeatedly tore through German tanks. All in all, some 430 SOMUA S35s were produced. Detailed Plastic Kit of Model Franz. SOMUA S35 Mittl. Panzer in Scale 1:35

Based on the Panzerkampfwagen 38(t), the Hetzer housed a crew of 4 in its low, compact hull. It was armed with a powerful Pak 39 L/48 75mm gun in a fixed mounting and featured sloped armor for enhanced protection. 2,584 were produced by May of 1945, and modifications were continually added during production, leading to differences between early, mid, and late production models. 1:35 German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant

Article number: 300035325 Product: 1/35 German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant This is a 1/35 scale assembly model of the German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elephant. Extensive research was conducted by Tamiya's designers to bring the modeling world the most accurate rendition to date. Historical background In 1941, Porsche created a prototype tank which incorporated radical features including a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. In 1943, the tank was transformed into the Ferdinand tank destroyer armed with an 8.8cm PaK 43 L/71 gun housed in a large box-shaped superstructure and 90 units were produced. During the Battle of Kursk, they demonstrated superior anti-armor capability to knock out T-34 and KV-1 tanks at long range, but their slow speed and unreliability resulted in many being immobilized by mechanical troubles. In 1944, 50 surviving Ferdinands were given modifications, including the addition of a machine gun, a commander's cupola, and were re-designated with the name Elefant. The Elefant saw combat on the Italian and Russian fronts, and some fought until the very end of WWII during the Battle of Berlin.

1:35 Israeli Tank M1 Super Sherman

Article number: 300035322 Product: 1/35 Israeli Tank M1 Super Sherman Over 50,000 Shermans of all types were produced during WWII. The Shermans which the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) initially procured from various sources were a mix of different variants featuring different hulls, turrets, suspensions, and armaments. However, Israel was eventually able to negotiate the purchase of about 250 M4A1 and M4A3 Shermans from France, and these were armed with the M1A1/A2 76.2mm main gun which could better counter the Arab armies' Russian made T-34-85s. Shermans were also produced with two different types of suspension: VVSS (Vertical Volute Spring Suspension) and HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension). The latter offered better performance and the IDF eventually modified their tanks to the HVSS standard. Thus the IDF designated its 76.2mm gun-armed HVSS-equipped Shermans as M1 Super Shermans and many of these saw their first action during the Sinai Campaign in 1956.

1:35 Israeli Tank M51 105mm

Article number: 300035323 Product: 1/35 Israeli Tank M51 105mm During the 1960's, the Israeli Ordnance Corps upgraded their M4A1 Sherman tanks by equipping them with the powerful French 105mm CN-105-F1 tank gun and they were redesignated as M51s. The larger gun meant a muzzle brake was installed to minimize the greater recoil effect and a counterweight was fitted to the rear of the turret. The 460hp diesel engine and the combination of the Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS) and wider T80 tracks gave the M51 improved mobility. During the Six-Day War in 1967, the M51s were used against newer T-54/55 tanks as well as JS-3 tanks from Egyptian, Iraqi, and Syrian armies. The M51's 105mm gun could take on these adversaries by using HEAT ammunition. After the war, these M51s continued to serve with distinction until they were finally retired in the early 1980s.

1:35 M561 6x6 Cargo Truck Gama Goat

Article number: 300035330 Product: 1:35 M561 Transport-Fahrzeug Gama Goat The M561 Gama Goat was seven years in development until production of the vehicle began in 1968. Its unique name was derived from the creator of its articulated joint, Roger Gamaunt, and its mountain goat-like climbing ability. It was unlike most other military off-road vehicles in that power could go to all 6 wheels of the vehicle, and its aforementioned articulated joint allowed 80° pitch and 60° roll ranges of the carrier module at the rear. Its excellent rough-terrain mobility was tempered somewhat by problems with tricky handling and maintenance, as well as its being rather noisy, but the Gama Goat continued in service until it was effectively replaced by the HMMWV in the late 1980s. About the Model • This is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit. • Length: 170mm, Width: 62mm. • The articulation joint of the M561 is recreated faithfully, and the joint on the model uses a poly-cap to accurately mimic the movement range of the real vehicle. • The model features optional front windshield and front-mounted winch parts. • The complex 6-wheel drive suspension is recreated in a single molded part without sacrificing accuracy. • 1 driver figure is included. • Comes with 3 marking options.

1:35 Russian Army Tank T72M1

Article number: 300035160 Product: 1/35 Russian Army Tank T72M1 About the Russian Tank T72M1 Modern Russian tanks are well known for superb mobility and a distinctive, low silhouette, offering as small a target as possible on the battlefield. In the late 1960's, the highly sophisticated T64 tank was produced to replace the Soviets T62 main battle tank. The T64 had the advanced feature of automatic canon loading, that eliminated the requirement for a loader, reducing the crew from four men to three. The T-64 tank; however, proved to be unreliable due to its complicated mechanics, and this led to the development of the T72 tank. The T72, despite its close external resemblance to the T-64, was created in an attempt to simplify the overall design; improve its maintenance capability; and to also enhance productivity. The refined type 2A46 125mm gun with its auto-loading system is capable of firing high explosive or hollow-charge, armor-piercing ammunition. The powerplant is a type V-46, V-12 cylinder, multi-fuel engine. The standard production designated T72M1 uses reinforced frontal armor and incorporates a laser range finder. This versatile tank, which began service a the beginning of the 1970s has been in production for many years, and had been license produced in many of the Warsaw Pact countries. Even during the 1980's when a new T80 main battle tank was introduced to replace the aging T-64, the T-72 series continued to be the centerpiece of the Russian armed forces.

1:35 Sov. Tank Destroyer SU-85 (1)

Article number: 300035072 Product: 1:35 Sov. Tank Destroyer SU-85 (1) At the beginning of the German Blitzkrieg on the Eastern Front, Russian soldiers were forced to fight hard against the invading Axis forces led by the impressive German Sturmgeschutz III. Barely holding back the advancing German forces just before Moscow, the Russian military quickly began to design assault guns. From these designs, the first finished model came loaded on the T-34 chassis with a secured fighting compartment and was armed with an impressive 122mm howitzer. This tank was given the designation SU-122. Introduced at the Battle of Kursk in 1943, was the newly designed SU-85 which was based on the successful SU-122. It came armed with the D-5S-85A, the 1939 anti-aircraft 51.5 caliber 85mm D-5 gun which was redesigned for anti-tank use. D-5 guns were developed in the same manner as German 88mm anti-tank guns equipped on German Tiger I and Jagdpanther tanks, as both guns were based on anti-aircraft guns. The SU-85's armor-piercing shell weighed 9.02kg, had a velocity of 792m/s, and could knock out tanks with 100mm thick armor at 1000m. The SU-85s hull featured a sloped front armor with the fighting compartment offset to the right. After the liberation of Kiev in December 1943, the SU-85 faced off Panther and Jagdtiger tanks and held its own thanks to its 85mm gun. The sharp style of the SU-85 with its long gun now comes reproduced as a 1/35 scale model. This kit was first released in 1975. About the Model -The arrival of the Russian SU-85 tank, which greatly surprised the invading German forces during WWII, now comes as a 1/35 scale plastic assembly model kit. Length: 235mm. - The commonly used lower hull of the T34 as well as the large diameter road wheels including the unique pattern of the tracks have been realistically reproduced. - Belt type tracks included. - The main gun can be depressed or elevated even after assembly to allow you enjoy a variety of diorama settings. - Both the drivers and main hatches can be assembled in either open or closed positions. - Kit includes one figure in a relaxed seated position. - A rich assortment of accessory parts such as fuel tanks, spare tracks, shovel, blankets etc which can be attached to the hull are included. - Comparing the SU-85 against the German Jagdpanther (Item 35069) would be enjoyable.   Warning! 1:35 US M151A2 Fiord MUTT w/TOW-Miss.(1)

Article number: 300035125 Product: 1:35 US M151A2 Fiord MUTT w/TOW-Miss.(1) The familiar Jeep was born during WW2 and it is said that it contributed greatly to the allied victory during that time. Following the conflict, this vehicle was widely used by most countries of the world as a small transport for the ground forces and later employed large calibre weapons systems for ground combat support. The U.S. Army first utilized this small vehicle in ground support firepower, by mounting the newly designed 105mm recoilless rifle in the rear of the Jeep. This weapon was developed to combat heavily armoured tanks and other tracked vehicles; however it was later adapted to anti-personnel operations with the development of anti-personnel shell charges. When the newer 106mm recoilless rifle came into being, it replaced the 105. This weapons system was mounted in the rear part of the Jeep, but could be also dismounted on a tri-pod for fixed use. As the old jeep became replaced with the newer M151 Ford MUTT, the 106 was also adapted to it. When the M151A2 was released during the late 70's, the model with the 106 rifle mounted was called M825. It had a beefed up rear suspension system to accept the rifles added weight of 325kg. Shortly the TOW missile system replaced the 106 recoiless rifles, as the main anti-tank mobile weapons system. Development of the TOW system began in the 1960's as a replacement for the large and heavy recoilless rifles. It was combat tested during the Vietnam conflict and proved its power and accuracy. It was further improved and finally replaced most of the 106's still in service. Officially it is called the BGM-71A; however, it is most widely called the TOW missile system which stands for Tube launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided, missile system. When the missile is fired at a target, the shooter maintains the target in the cross hairs of the sight. The infrared rays of the missile exhaust are sensed by the optical sight and the computer compensated for the speed of the target an M151A2 w/Tow Missile

1:35 US M151A2 Ford MUTT Truck (1)

Article number: 300035123 Product: 1/35 US M151A2 Ford MUTT Truck (1) The U.S. Armoured vehicle test course is located in Aberdeen, Maryland, and is one of the most rigorous and demanding coursed in the world. Early in April 1957, a familiar looking small vehicle was seen to be running over the course with comparitive ease, and upon closer inspection it turned out to be the replacement for the well known Willy's "Jeep", the new Ford M151. Outwardly this new vehicle loos very much like its older brother. Both are small, compact, rugged, simple to operate and maintain; however, the 151 incorporates all of the latest advanced features learned during combat operations in conflicts since world war II. Features such as the newly developed OHV engine, light semimonocoque body and 4 wheel independent suspension systems allowed it to outpoint all other submitted replacement vehicles for the ageing WWII Jeep. Development for this replacement vehicle was started by the Ford Motor Company were licensed to produce the vehicle and they delivered approximately 10,000 units a year to the U.S. Army, Navy Air Force and Marines. Shortly after its adoption it was selected by most of the nations of the free world as a replacement for their own light utility vehicles. Some of the advanced features incorporated into the M151 caused problems and defects were detected in the initial shipments, among the most serious was the strength and stability of the rear suspension system which was corrected and improved in 1964 and 1970. The M151A2 now in service has added safety features like stiffer rear suspension, large blinder lamps and a two step windshield wiper, safety glass and an impact absorbing steering wheel. With its extreme versatitliy the basic M151 can be altered into a combat ambulance; radio communications vehicle; 105mm recoilless rifle transport and a launcher for the new tow missile system adopted in the late 70's. Combat experience in VietNam has shown that the Ford M151 Military Utility Tactical Truck (MUTT) is indeed a very ve U.S. M151A2 FORD MUTT
